Native to Iowa, this tree reaches 60-80’ height with 60-90’ spread at maturity. Adaptable to most soils, requires full sun. Yellow-brown to purple fall color, excellent wildlife food source.
Red Oak (Quercus rubra)
Large, native shade tree that can reach 80’. One of Iowa’s best trees for landscaping because it grows faster than other oaks. Grows on a wide variety of sites but prefers a sunny site with well-drained soils. Symmetrical, rounded crown provides lots of shade. Fall colors include red, orange-red or reddish-brown.
